Aaron Alon, DMA

Named “one of Houston’s most talented creative forces” by Broadway World Houston, Aaron Alon is an award-winning composer, writer, director, filmmaker, and teacher. HIs award-winning plays and musicals have been performed around the US and UK. He was one of six international finalists for the 2022 Fred Ebb Awards for musical theatre writers.
His stage musicals include The Chosen Ones, winner of the 2026 Broadway World Houston Critics' Choice Awards for best musical; The Great White Way: the Bert Williams Musical was a semifinalist for the 2026 Pipeline Foundation Awards, a finalist for the 2023 Stanley Drama Award, and an Honorable Mention in the 2025 Relentless Awards from the American Playwrighting Foundation; Mad (co-written with Russell Sarre); and Everybody's Son (co-written with Alric Davis).
His feature film musical Bully was screened in festivals around the world, winning over twenty festival prizes. He's also a YouTube content creator with over 11 million views. His channel features comedic shorts and videos of his musical theatre songs.
Before focusing on musical theatre, Aaron was a classical composer. His award-winning concert music has been performed in concert venues in seven countries on five continents, including 14 US states and Washington, DC.
Aaron is also highly active as a teacher. He currently serves as a Professor of Music at Lone Star College-University Park, and is a two-time winner of their Faculty Excellence Awards. He also creates online educational content and guest lectures throughout the region.
Aaron cofounded two nonprofits: Thunderclap Productions, a Houston based production company focused on new work, and Vocal Toolkit, which creates educational content for science-driven vocal pedagogy.
Aaron is a member of the Recording Academy (voting member for the GRAMMY Awards), ASCAP, and Mu Phi Epsilon. He holds a DMA from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, an MM from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a BA from the University of Chicago. His past composition teachers include Karim Al-Zand, Anthony Brandt, Shih-Hui Chen, Jean Milew, Marta Ptaszynska, and Orianna Webb.
